چکیده

The purpose of this study was to assess the antibacterial efficacy of incorporating catechins into 4META/MMA-TBB resin against Streptococcus mutans and to measure the shear bond strength of a metal bracket bonded to enamel using catechin-incorporated with 5% 4-methacryloyloxyethyl trimellitate anhydride (4-META)/methyl methacrylate (MMA)-tri-n-butyl borane (TBB) resin (catechin-resin). Catechin-resin disks were incubated with the bacterial suspension at 37 °C for 24 h. The bacterial counts (colony forming units) of the disk and the suspension were determined separately. Catechin release from catechin-resin was monitored. The catechin-containing composites were used to bond metal brackets to human premolars pretreated with self-etching primer. After the bonded samples were immersed in water at 37 °C for 24 h, shear bond strength was measured. The most significant antibacterial activity was observed in (-)-epigallocatechin gallate-resin disk and (-)epigallocatechin gallate-resin-treated bacterial suspension when compared with the control. Catechin was released from catechin-resin during 6 week immersion in deionized water. (-)-Epicatechin gallate, (-)-epigallocatechin and (-)-epigallocatechin gallate showed a large amount of catechin release. Only significant differences was detected in bond strength between the control and (-)-epigallocatechin gallate. The addition of (-)-epigallocatechin gallate to 4-META/MMA-TBB resin confers an antibacterial effect while retaining sufficient bond strength.

Effects of the addition of fluoride to a 4-META/MMA-TBB-based resin adhesive on fluoride release, acid resistance of enamel and shear bond strength in vitro.

This study investigated fluoride release, acid resistance and shear bond strength (SBS) of new 4-META/MMA-TBB-based fluoride-containing resin adhesive (Super-Bond/F3). Super-Bond, Transbond Plus and Fuji Ortho LC were selected for comparison. Fluoride release into distilled water during 6-month period was measured using disk-shaped specimens. Brackets were bonded to human premolars with each ma...

Effect of hybridization on bond strength and adhesive interface after acid-base challenge using 4-META/MMA-TBB resin.

The purposes of this study were twofold, namely to evaluate: (1) the effect of hybridization on microtensile bond strength (microTBS) to dentin, and (2) the ultrastructure of the dentin-adhesive interface with 4-META/MMA-TBB resin after acid-base challenge. Dentin surfaces, which received no treatment (NT), 65% phosphoric acid (PA), or 10% citric acid-3% ferric chloride (10-3), were bonded with...

Effect of experimental acid/base conditioner on microtensile bond strength of 4-META/MMA-TBB resin to dentin after long-term water immersion.

An experimental conditioner (Exp), which was an aqueous solution of 10% ascorbic acid and 5% ferric chloride, was prepared in this study. This study evaluated the effect of Exp on the microtensile bond strength between a self-curing resin and dentin after long-term water immersion. Flat human dentin surfaces were sequentially pretreated with 40% phosphoric acid, 10% sodium hypochlorite, and Exp...

Adhesion of 4-META/MMA-TBB resin to collagen-depleted dentin--effect of conditioner with ascorbic acid/ferric chloride.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate ascorbic acid (AS) and ferric chloride (FE) for bonding 4-META/MMA-TBB resin to dentin that had been treated with NaClO. An experimental dentin conditioner consisting of 10%AS and 5%Fe (10AS-5FE) and three controls (10AS-0FE, 0AS-5FE, and 0AS-0FE) were prepared. Ascorcic acid neutralizes NaClO. The flattened dentin surfaces were modified sequentially wi...

Phosphoric acid tooth conditioner containing copper salt for bonding MMA-TBB resin.

The purpose of this study was to examine the feasibility of a conditioner for treating enamel and dentin simultaneously for MMA-TBB resin bonding. Various phosphoric acid solutions containing copper salts were prepared and used as conditioners before bonding MMA-TBB resin to bovine teeth. Their effects on the surface morphology and bonding were studied by scanning electron microscopy and tensil...
